You must drink alcohol in Korea in order to know each other better and to not get neglected from society. This is what most of the people in Korea thinks. I don't like it. According to the statistics, people in Korea drink 123 bottle of Soju, 372 bottle of beer and 46.5 bottle of liquor. Really a lot isn't it? People say drinking alcohol relieves their stress from work, they can enjoy that moment and it is a way to know people easily.
Society makes people to drink when they enter university. When students first enter university and go through orientation and membership trainings, in most of the case, you must drink alcohol. It is getting better but still you can say 99% of the school seniors make us to drink and make us drunk. Why do we have to drink alcohol? I am not saying that alcohol is a bad thing (although it is bad for your health), but still if someone does not want to drink it, why force us to drink?
When people start drinking they go to a bar, drink alcohol come out, go to another bar and start drinking and people at least 3-4 bars before they go back to their home. Maybe people don't force me to drink alcohol in the bar, but I don't want to follow people to 3-4 bars and just sit their watching people drinking and they don't let me go until they go.
I like the fact that in other countries (I don't know about it for sure but according to what I read and heard), they just enjoy drinking, don't force people to drink, don't drink until they get drunk etc (in normal cases). I avoid drinking even with my best friends, because I will anyways going to drink with school seniors or colleague at work. I just hate how people drink in Korea.
